Movers' Terms
As a rule, California moving companies use the following terms that you should be familiar with so you'll know what they're talking about:
- A local move, means your point of origin and destination are within California and less than 100 miles apart. An example would be moving to Chula Vista from Escondido or from San Francisco to San Jose.
- Moves that are still within the state of California but are more than 99 miles from origin to destination are known as intrastate moves. For example, a move from Palm Springs to Oakland, California.
- Moves that cross state borders are known as interstate moves. For example, if you were moving from Fresno or Stockton, California to Phoenix or Flagstaff, Arizona or to Minneapolis, Minnesota.
